About Us
The Primrose Garden Vajiraramaya was established through the initiative of the most venerable ‘Aggamaha Panditha Madihe Panññaseeha’ maha thero and the great patronage of the most venerable ‘Ampitiye Sri Rahula‘ maha thero. The Primrose Garden Vajiraramaya is situated on a green hill overlooking the historic city of Kandy, in the centre of which is the world’s most sacred Buddhist temple, The Sri Dalada Mandiraya, which is enshrined the most sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha. The main aim of the establishment of the Primrose Garden Vajiraramaya is to spread and inculcation of the Buddha’s teachings and the way of life as exemplified by the Buddha among the people of the world.
On 11th of January 1981, the foundation stone for the International Buddhist Center, to be named as ‘The Kandy Vajiraramaya’ was laid amidst pomp and pageant. This institution is being conducted as the kandy branch of the ‘Sri Vajirañana Buddisht Center’, Maharagama.
A bhikku training center also has been established and presently over 25 Buddhist monks are being given a training in the establishment. This organization is dedicated to the creation of an erudite, disciplined, scholarly generation of Buddhist monks for the propagation of the Buddha’s teachings locally as well as internationally. Today, the Kandy Vajiraramaya has achieved the purpose set above.

Madihe Pagnaseeha maha nayaka thero co-founded the Kandy Vajiraramaya in 1981. Pagnaseeha thero is a renowned thero and was Mahanayaka of ‘Amarapura Dharmarakshitha Nikaya’ and ‘Amarapura Sangha Sabhawa’.
Most Venerable Ampitiye Rahula Maha Thero

Ampitiye Rahula Maha Thero co-founded the Kandy Vajiraramaya in 1981. Rahula thero was also a renowned senior thero in ‘Amarapura Dharmarakshitha Nikaya’ and supported the development of the institution throughout the times.
